Theradome Frequently Asked Questions
Will I benefit from using the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet?
People who use Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet and follow the recommended regime, should experience the following benefits:
- A minimisation and slowing down of hair loss.
- Signs of hair regrowth.
Please bear in mind results vary from person to person dependent on hair state at the beginning treatment, age of onset, general health and underlying medical conditions. If you are unsure the cause of your hair loss, we highly recommend visiting a registered Trichologist for a consultation and diagnosis before embarking on treatment with laser phototherapy.
How long until I notice some results?
Through use of the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet, hair growth occurs in three developmental stages as follows:
- Step One: Between 4 – 18 weeks hair loss can be minimised.
- Step Two: Between 18 – 26 weeks reversing miniaturisation occurs.
- Step Three: 26 – 52 weeks renewed hair regrowth occurs.
Please remember that each user is an individual and therefore results may vary.
How do I use Theradome®?
The Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet is extremely user friendly and operated via a single, large power button on the back of the helmet. Once you have switched the helmet on it directs you with its audio voice which tells you; if the battery is low, when the treatment has ended, how many Theradome® treatments you have completed in total and if your helmet is experiencing any technical issues.
Are there any potential side-effects that I may experience after use?
Side effects from using laser phototherapy for hair loss are extremely rare. Occasional users may experience headaches due to increased blood circulation. Should this continue for more than a week or two please contact our customer services for advice. Wearing the helmet the wrong way around will result in headaches due to incorrect weight distribution on the head. Always wear Theradome® with the master switch at the back. Our product has been fully cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in America for use by both men and women. It also carries the CE Mark which means that it complies fully with EU safety, health and environmental requirements for medical devices.
How do I determine if the Theradome® LH80 PRO is the right treatment for me?
Laser Phototherapy can be beneficial for hair loss at any stage. However, the sooner you start treatment the better the outcome can be. With regards to
male hair loss the Norwood Scale is most commonly used to determine the stage and pattern of receding hair loss. For
female hair loss there are several scales used. The most commonly used is the Savin Scale, as this measures the overall thinning in addition to pattern of hair loss stages. Please view an example of the Savin Scale below in order to assist you with determining which stage of female hair loss you may be experiencing.

What is the best way to track my treatment progress?
Keeping a visual photographic record of your hair loss prior to treatment and at regular stages during treatment, will allow you to track your hair regrowth treatment progress. Further details, including a
before and after photo guide can be viewed via our sister American Theradome® website.
Theradome® LH80 PRO Laser Helmet
How many times a week should I use Theradome®?
We recommend that you use your Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet twice a week, for twenty-minute treatment sessions. You can use Theradome® more frequently if you desire, however we don’t recommend more than one treatment session per twenty-four hour period.
When is the best time of day to use Theradome®?
The optimum time for you to use the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet, is directly after you have showered and towel dried your hair. The helmet has rubber pegs that are designed to separate your hair to ensure maximum exposure of the scalp. Therefore having damp, towel dried hair makes this process more effective. Please be advised that we do not recommend using Theradome® on soaking wet hair.
Will the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet fit my head?
The Theradome® LH80 PRO has been designed to fit 98% of the population’s head size. The remaining 2% who may experience issues with the helmet size are usually those with a smaller head circumference. However, this problem is easily rectified through the use of additional foam pads to improve comfort and stability. So regardless of your head size, we reassure you the Theradome® LH80 PRO will fit you correctly and comfortably.
Is the red laser light dangerous?
Our cold lasers appear red in colour, only red light can be absorbed by the scalp and ultimately the base of the hair follicles. Our lasers are not intense enough to cause any damage to your eyes. However, we have installed a three step system into the helmet in order to ensure your safety. When your session ends or you remove the helmet from your head, the laser lights will turn off automatically. Even if you looked directly into the laser light, this would still not affect your eyes. Despite this, we would still not recommend that you actively seek to do this. Further information on
How Theradome Works can be found via our Theradome® GB website.
How long does the Theradome® LH80 PRO take to charge?
The Theradome® LH80 PRO only takes three hours or less to charge fully, at which point you can unplug and use the device.
When do I know when the battery needs to be changed?
Our specially manufactured lithium ion batteries last a long time, usually around two years but customers have reported as many as 500 treatment cycles from one battery. If the helmet appears to take a long time to charge and then only lasts for 2-3 treatments, it is time to order another battery. A completely expired battery may cause the master switch to just flash red or in some cases give the message ‘laser error’. Please be aware that leaving your helmet for long periods of time unused may cause the battery to decline. We recommend disconnecting the battery if you intend to not use it for a period of time.
You can find more information regarding battery troubleshooting via our website. Replacement batteries with the correct connection can only be bought from Theradome® or an authorised Theradome® reseller such as Theradome GB.
Theradome® Medical
Can I use the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet alongside other hair loss treatments?
Yes – it can be used alongside other hair loss treatments, however as the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet is so effective this isn’t always necessary. If you are currently using other hair loss treatments, we would advise continuing to do so at least in the early stages of using Theradome® as suddenly ceasing to use certain hair loss treatments can cause a short term increase in hair shedding.
Can I use Theradome® if I have had a hair transplant?
Yes – the helmet can be used if you have undergone hair transplant surgery. Laser Phototherapy (LPT) can assist the growth of newly grafted follicles in the following ways:
- Accelerating the healing process.
- Reducing redness and inflammation.
- Decreasing discomfort.
- Encouraging transplanted hairs to grow faster.
Please check with your hair restoration surgeon that they are happy for you to use Laser Phototherapy after your procedure.
Why is the Theradome® LH80 PRO more efficient than a laser comb?
Theradome® is cordless in its design and therefore user friendly and easy to implement into your daily routine. 80 coherent red light lasers within the helmet penetrate the scalp simultaneously in order to penetrate the base of the hair follicles. The optimal energy dose for stimulation is received in each twenty-minute treatment session. Combing your hair with a laser comb for twenty-minutes will never achieve the same level of hair follicle stimulation as only a small section of scalp can be treated at a time. The comb must be manually moved around the scalp during treatment.
Will Theradome® help with scalp dermatitis and itching?
Some Theradome® users have reported reduced inflammation and redness of the scalp, both of which are symptoms of dermatitis and subsequently itching. However, please note that the Theradome® LH80 PRO does not have FDA clearance for the treatment of dermatitis and itching, therefore cannot make claims that Theradome® assists these conditions.
Is it ever too early to use the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet?
It is never too early to commence LPT treatment through the use of the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet. LPT assists hair regrowth at any stage of hair loss for both men and women, therefore it is never too early to try Theradome® and see how it works for you.
Do I need a prescription to use the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet?
No the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet is an FDA cleared over-the-counter device and therefore no medical prescription is needed to purchase or use the device.
I am being treated for cancer-can I use the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet?
If you are currently receiving treatment for cancer you can only use the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet outside of your treatment dates. Cancer treatment can cause hair loss to occur in both men and women and therefore once treatment has ended LPT treatment can help the restoration of hair regrowth. However, it is always recommended that you discuss with your GP or specialist consultant before commencing any new treatment options. If you have had skin cancer or scalp solar keratosis, then please consult your consultant before using LPT.
Can you use the Theradome LH80 PRO with Photosensitising medication for Photosensitive skin complaints?
Unfortunately not, it is one of the few contra-indications of Laser Phototherapy.
I am pregnant - can I use the Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet?
No- unfortunately we do not recommend the use of Theradome® whilst you are pregnant. However, if you experience hair loss following pregnancy, providing you have finished breastfeeding, you can use our Theradome® LH80 PRO helmet to assist hair regrowth.
